Seattle: Week 2

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Things this week have gone well. I was approved for my new place on Mercer Island and was able to sign the papers yesterday, so I pick up the keys on the 1st and head up to Bellingham so that I can meet the movers the next morning. They’ll pack my things, move them down to my new place, and then unpack all in the same day, which will be pretty nice. . . only taking a day to move.

At work, we had two regional directors visiting this week. It was really interesting to be included in those meetings, lunches, dinners, etc. As well, I went through new hire orientation and got a kick out of it when the HR director showed us something like an org chart, and my name was on it. :-)

I’ve been so exhausted this week. The Tour started at 3:30 on Tuesday and Wednesday, and nearly every evening this week, I went out with one friend or another, so I haven’t been able to get much sleep. Needless to say, I’ve been trying to take a lot of naps. At the moment, it’s 5:30am, and I’ve been up for 1.5 hours already, watching the final day of the Tour.

Once I’m settled into my new place, I plan to find a gym (24 Hour Fitness since Hilton employees get a discount) and a capoeira group. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a a capoeira group here on the East-side.

Seattle: Week 1

I’ve been in Seattle for one week now. I’m getting a little tired of the food at the hotel. While it may be of super high quality, I am used to all raw food, so it’s been difficult (or easy if I just want to be lazy) to adjust, and that’s not something I want.

I haven’t encountered too much traffic while driving around, and I know that Seattle is notorious for it’s traffic. We’ll see how it is once I get into my place on Mercer Island. When I drove back to the hotel after seeing it the first time, it only took 7 minutes during rush hour. Oh, btw, the lady from Seattle Apartment Finders that helped me find the place was pretty cool. The service was definitely worth it.

Work, moving, and the Tour de France have pretty much destroyed my workouts. I worked out in the hotel fitness center the first two days I was here, but gave up because I didn’t have enough time for everything. Hopefully, I can just limp along with a workout here or there until I move and can get a gym membership.

I’ve been trying to reconnect with old friends, so I’ve been out with different people that I haven’t seen for years about every other night here. That’s pretty fun because there’s always something to talk about.

Seems like I’m gonna like this place.
