How are newspapers a conversation?


Three quotes from this video:

  • “Puts you in the center of the conversation.”

  • “Get the conversation going.”
  • “Be part of a great conversation.”

I caught this commercial on TV a month or two ago and have been looking for it online ever since just so that I could post these questions.

How is a newspaper a conversation, especially when you compare it to blogs, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc? I mean, I get that Letters to the Editor can kind of make a newspaper a conversation, but in comparison to new media, newspapers just don’t stack up. I feel like the NY Times just wanted to use “conversation” in this commercial because it’s such a buzzword as far as new media goes.

No? Am I wrong?
