Politics and Presentations
I don’t know how to say this any simpler, but when giving a presentation, it is almost always a bad idea to wander into political commentary. I’m currently at a workshop, and the presenter has twice made political jokes. Now, while I may have found them funny, he should be aware that political comments – whether jokes or not – are almost guaranteed to alienate some people in the audience.
- When giving a presentation, you should try to draw in your audience, thereby making it easier to connect with them. Do not drift into an epic theater style presentation, which will make it more difficult for listeners to connect with you.
- Keep to your topic and be true to your audience. When have you ever been told that drifting off topic and talking about tangential matters are good things?

Very true … no matter how well intended, the politics of present day are far more heated.

Thanks, Hollydale. And, you’re right. On the eve of the election, your comment seems even more relevant. Thanks, again.
