On Vacation in Sydney, Australia

Well, after signing my job offer, I bought my ticket to Oz and took off.  I had almost zero jet lag, which was great, but I imagine that I will have jet lag when I get back unfortunately.

Things here have been great.  I’m staying with a friend I met in Germany – Chris – and his family.  They live in a small suburb south of Sydney proper in a pretty nice house.  I have also caught up with a Columbian friend from high school – who works for the Sydney Hilton – and one of my floormates from Germany – Kylie.

One thing that has really surprised me is the Sydney climate…how cold it is here.  It’s not bad during the day, but the temperature during the winter gets much colder than I had expected it to be.  As well, I have been really surprised by how similar Sydney is to the US.  Since it’s so far away, I was expecting it to be more like Europe or Asia, but really, it’s a lot like Canada.  The largest differences are in the flora and the cars.

Well, I’m gonna take off for a run.  When I get back, I’ll post pictures from the trip.

Ahhh, Sydney! True, a big city is a big city for the most part. Definitely check out the Gold Coast (QLD) for a change of pace!!
