Raw: Week 3

As of the end of last week, I had lost ~10lbs. At the end of this week, I was hovering around 14lbs lost in 3 weeks. If I was not getting enough calories, I assume that I would feel tired, but to be honest, I haven’t felt tired hardly at all. On the contrary, I feel slightly more awake throughout the morning and later evening than I think I did previously. Also this week, I began running every morning. It’s not a long distance, but that has probably affected my weight loss as well.

My fiance dealt with an upset stomach for 8 or 10 days straight every time she ate. I was not sure what to attribute that to until someone pointed out that she might be taking in too much acidic food. I stopped making smoothies in the morning, and that more or less solved it, but it leaves me wondering…can someone really avoid acidic fruits if they are on a raw diet? I mean, would it not be nearly impossible to get enough nutrients and calories?

Both Friday and Saturday this week, we went back to Thrive, once with my fiance’s family and once with some friends from Portland. Both groups were impressed by the food. One thing that was amusing though was that, after one of the meals, we went next door to an ice cream shop. Everyone had ice cream except for my fiance and I. After they finished, it seemed that everyone had a sort of food coma going. It could have just been my imagination, but still, that is what it seemed like. Beyond rarely being tired, not getting the food coma after a meal is nice ;-)

To be honest, there did not seem to be a lot of change this week. We tried a few new recipes, but nothing really wowed us. We also had some organic wine that the wine guy said is technically raw because it does not contain added sulfites. It had been 3 weeks without any alcohol, but despite the diet change and the time without drinking, neither of us noticed feeling the alcohol any earlier or later.

At this point, we have 10 days left if you count today, and I’m beginning to wonder if one month of this will really have affected our lives much. I haven’t really made the time to truly dive into raw life, and I think my fiance is more satisfied eating things that are easy than she is experimenting with new creations, so I’m curious to see what she’ll take away from this. Just now, I can hear her telling someone on the phone that this month is so ‘fun’ and that she can’t wait for the 11th to come :-P

I admire you for trying this. It takes a lot of dedication to do something that “radical” for a month!
