Stop making excuses
This came to mind because a friend called to thank me for advising him to get out of a bad relationship. He finally did after 2 months, and now, he’s trying to turn over a new leaf. I had told him that I saw him losing motivation to do what really made him feel alive and that, as soon as he accepted he had a choice to cut loose a relationship that was holding him down, he would would be able to move on with his own happiness.
Talking with him motivated me to continue to push for continual improvement in my own life. I’ve been thinking about marking my birthday at the end of this month by jumping back into music. Some of you might know that I was a very active musician until just this last year when I got pretty heavy into work, and to be honest with you, I miss it a bit. (Some music I wrote and recorded about 2 years back… I tend to play mellower music now – classical, fingerstyle guitar, country-ish folk – but always with a funky, unique feel.)
I’m thinking of pushing myself by writing and releasing 1 new song every week from this birthday until the next. Someone told me this has been done before. True? If so, shoot me a link. I’d love to hear not only your opinions, but also your ideas.
What are you doing? At work, do you take a second now and then to think about how you can make things better? In your personal life, are you really doing what makes you happiest without making excuses for why you can’t do things?
If you take nothing else from this post, listen to this. It’s been stuck in my head recently.
