If the numbers aren’t coming up in your favor, you could be at risk.
Do you currently have a job? Redouble your efforts and make sure your superiors know you’re working. Even that might not be enough. You might need to show success no matter how much time you have to put in.
Whether you’re employed or not, you should be working on new skills and improving the ones you already have. It’s very difficult to fire someone with a diverse skill set and/or a very deep skill set, and it’s easy to hire those people, especially during hard times… that is, if the company has the money to hire anyone.
No matter who you are, you should be saving some money, reworking your resume, and hoping for the best. Times are tough for your employers, and unfortunately, they could just get worse for you.
ADDENDUM
The twitterverse weighed in very quickly and suggested that you keep documentation or some form of proof of unjust reasons you believe you could be terminated, because if you are released for a reason you feel is illegal, you wouldn’t want your claim to simply be your word against theirs.
