Requirement: No Food for Eric

For a month or so, I have been considering going without paying anything for food or drink at all. Now, before you go and say that’s impossible, you should be aware that my day job provides lunch for me. . . only Monday through Friday of course. It’s good tasting food, but by no means is it a complete, healthy diet. The only food or drink I have at home (besides water) is a small bag of pistachios. I just don’t have the ability to pay for food at the moment.

Mainly, I’m posting this here to ask what you think. Have you ever done anything like this or known someone who has? How did it go? What input do you have?

  • Thanks a million for the points about all the free food, Rufus. I hadn't even really thought about Sam's Club, Kroger's, Costco, etc, but you are definitely right.

Btw, cool blog. I really like the concept.
  • Unfortunately, I think you probably already learned something, but probably not what you were hoping to learn.
  • in America, not on America... on America.... gawd...
  • Hell no, it is not pointless! In fact, Sam's club gives out free samples on Sat/Sun, Krogers gives out free cheese sample, cookies, chips, bread... you would have to absolutely STUPID to starve on America.

Free food everywhere... if you work at it just a little bit.

Blog each day, give us a point-by-point and publish the diet
  • ha. Don't know. I think I'd have to read the handbook again. :-P
  • I think that you are only supposed to have 1 meal a day at work.... isnt that correct?
  • Good point about the fruit, Matt. At work, I am lucky if I get one meal with fruit during the entire week. . . not too healthy in that respect.
  • apparently i did this for about 18 months, according to friends. besides work there were always other functions related to my job that provided food and booze too. life was good. though i did miss fruit. fruit is important. if you can get fruit you should be doing great.
  • I'm surprised that you're actually the first person to mention that. . . Here, on reddit, in person, no one had said that, and I figured it would've been one of the first things.

It seems like the consensus thus far is that it would be curious, but not too meaningful. . . if you see what I'm saying.
  • It might be an interesting experiment if you didn't get free meals 5 days a week at work, but as it stands that's just too easy.
