Poor Fit
I just left an audition for a band and came away thinking again about the importance of fit. I’d have to go back to play with the whole band (this time was just with the band leader), but I’m doubting that I could continue. The guy has some guitar skills, but is kind of bossy and made a couple major mistakes that made me worry I would be lead by someone, who knows less than me about music and is too proud to admit that if we ever butted heads. Another thing that threw me off was that he was more concerned with the “sound” of my guitar than how I played it. I don’t know; maybe, I’m just more laid back, but I would’ve told someone that, as long as our styles worked, the sounds of the guitars and amps could be adjusted later. I tried to get that across to him, but I don’t think I got through.
Anyhoo, my major concern is not so much how good either of us plays, but rather if our personalities fit, and at first indication, they probably don’t. As in any situation, I’m willing to give it another go just to find out, but my instincts say that I’ll be moving on.
